D623 was tasked to a report of two persons in the water off County Hall.  The casualties were two kite surfers, one of which had become tangled in his lines with  the other offering assistance.  The ILB located the casualties, took them on-board and safely returned them to shore for the awaiting Coastguard and Ambulance.

D623 was launched to assist a 29ft yacht 'Orinoco' which had engine failure and was in danger of running aground 1mile SW of River Tawe.  The ILB towed the casualty to the vessels berth in Swansea Marina via the Tawe lock.

D623 launched to assist a 16ft fishing vessel which had suffered engine failure following a fire on board.  On arrival the fire had been put out and the ILB towed the casualty vessel to the Knab Rock.

D623 launched at 11.57 to assist the commercial pleasure trip RIB "Drake of Swansea", that had suffered mechanical problems off Thistle Bluff ( 1.25 miles west of the station). As D623 arrived on scene the vessel "Lady Jay" had taken the 7 passengers onboard. D623 placed a tow on the Drake and towed her back to Mumbles. Whilst on route the skipper of the Drake got the engine started, so the tow was dropped and the ILB escorted the vessel back to Mumbles.

Meanwhile the boarding boat was launched with Graham Wright and Richard Bowles onboard, they transferred the 7 passengers from the Lady Jay ashore at the Knab Rock.

D623 launched to assist a 16ft fishing power boat which had lost all power and was anchored 600m east of River Tawe.  A Mumbles Lifeboat crew member was transferred to the casualty vessel while a tow was being set-up.  However, after a short while the casualty vessel fault was corrected and the vessel made it's way under it's own power into Swansea Marina accompanied by the ILB.

D623 launched to report of two children in an inflatable dingy drifting 300m off shore from the observatory in Swansea Bay.  The ILB crew located the casualty however the casualties had returned to shore unaided.

Report of windsurfer in trouble off the Knab Rock.  D623 launched to assist, however windsurfer was recovered by Yacht Club safety boat which was already on scene.

D623 was launched to assisted the Mumbles ALB which had towed a 47ft yacht which had been taking on water and issued a 'Mayday' call (see details on ALB Shouts 2006).  The Mumbles ILB assisted the casualty vessel into Swansea Marina, secured the vessel and passed to the awaiting Coastguard and casualty skipper and crew.

D623 launched to a report of a rubber dingy being blown out to sea between Langland and Caswell with 2 persons onboard. When on scene the crew of D623 found 2 persons in the dingy in wetsuits who were snorkelling. The crew of D623 advised them to go back ashore due to offshore winds. Initially the two refused, but shortly accepted a lift from D623 who brought them ashore along with the dingy.

A Mumbles crew member noted heavy smoke coming from the engine compartment of the casualty vessel just after it launched. He though that the vessel had an engine fire so contacted D623 which was at sea on exercise and the Coastguard, who requested D623 to attend the vessel. On arrival at the casualty vessel and upon further investigation it was noted that the smoke from the engine compartment was due to a defective broken exhaust manifold and not due to a fire. D623 was released by the Coastguard to continue exercise.

D623 launched to take over a tow from Horton and Port Eynon ILB. Both ILBs met 2 miles west of Mumbles station. Tows were changed and Mumbles ILB towed the vessel up to Knab Rock at Mumbles.

D623 launched to a request from the Coastguard for assistance of a vessel 1 mile SW of station. The vessel was at anchor when the ILB arrived on scene. A tow was connected and the vessel was towed to the Knab Rock at Mumbles.

D623 was going out to Mumbles ALB to collect crew who had placed the ALB on mooring. The ILB crew noted the casualty vessel drifting 1/3 mile NE of station they went to offer assistance. This offer was accepted, a tow was passed and D623 towed the vessel to the Knab Rock at Mumbles.

Report of vessel grounding at Langland beach. D623 launched to assist. When the ILB arrived on scene it was noted that the casualty crew had gone ashore. The ILB was beached, the helm liased with the owner and the Coastguard. The ILB crew placed the casualty anchor out to assist with re-floating with the tide. D623 then returned to station.

D623 launched to assist a yacht which was dragging at anchor adjacent to the ILB house and unable to use its aux engine. D623 placed a towline onboard the yacht and towed vessel to a mooring. The casualty was brought ashore and D623 returned to station.

D 623 launched at the request of Horton & Port Eynon to meet with them & take over the tow of a vessel which they had in tow and required towing back to Mumbles. As D623 launched Horton & Port Eynon informed Swansea Coastguard that due to the ebb tide they were making little headway with the tow. Therefore they requested Mumbles ALB to takeover the tow. D623 was recovered and the ALB launched to complete the service. The crew were already assembled in the Boathouse when the call came in. Following recovering the ILB the ALB was launched.

4 persons and 2 dogs observed by member of public on a sand bank surrounded by incoming tide. ILB launched and by the time it arrived they were up to the knees in water. The ILB crew, because the water was still relatively shallow, waded out to them, placed them into the ILB and by wading, pulled them safely to the beach.

Mumbles Lifeboat crewman observed 4 persons stranded on 2 local islands with incoming tide. ILB was launched to bring them safely ashore as darkness and cold conditions were approaching. ILB returned to station and ready for service at 20.30.

Coxswain M. Double observed 5 youngsters stranded on a local island with incoming tide some of them had been in the sea. ILB launched and proceeded to the island, took the 5 youngsters on board and landed them safely onto a local beach.

Report of man overboard a boat in Swansea Bay. Information from MRCC directed ILB to the scene and found the owner of the boat in the sea approx 100mtrs away. The ILB crew hauled him onboard. He was safe, the crew then connected a tow placing crewman Mark Jones on board the casualty to assist. Back at station it was observed that a line had caught around the boat propeller. ILB crew assisted in freeing this before the casualty and its crew resumed its journey.

The Coastguard requested a launch of D623 to assist them and the Police with carrying out a search for a report that a person had entered the water, assumed due to clothing and personnel affects having been found on the beach. D623 checked out a couple reported sightings but nothing was found. Following this a search was carried out of Swansea Bay following the contour of the bay from Mumbles to Swansea. Just over an hour into the search the ILB was joined on the search by Mumbles ALB. Due to nothing being found the Coastguard terminated the search.

D623 was being made ready for a PR Demo when Swansea Coastguard contacted the ILB House to request a launch of the ILB to recover 6 young teenagers who were stranded on the middle island by the incoming tide. D623 launched and recovered all 6 persons and brought them ashore at the ILB House slip.

Swansea coastguard requested a launch of D623, to assist 4 persons fishing on the lighthouse island, who had been fishing since 07.00. Due to deep tides the causeway was not open and consequently the fishermen would have to remain on the island until the next low water in some 12 hours. All 4 brought ashore to ILB and spoken to by Coastguard.

Report from Swansea MRCC that a person was missing in the water at a beach 2 miles west of station. ILB launched and on arrival was directed onto an object in the sea which turned out to be a lump of driftwood, after searching area, nothing was found. ILB was stood down & returned to station.

South Wales Police raised an alarm that 2 foster children were missing since 13:30 that afternoon, last seen in Bracelet Bay Mumbles.  A full search team were launched including both Mumbles Lifeboats, Police Helicopter, 4 coastguard search teams and police.

After extensive searching around Mumbles Head the 2 boys were located in the centre of Swansea safe and well.

Crew set up the tow line and recovered the boat to Knab Rock to awaiting coastguards.

Swansea Coastguards paged the ILB crew for "Immediate Readiness" in the early hours of Sunday Morning.  Reports were being received of a potential person in the water off Blackpill.

The ILB launched to the scene to provide support to the Coastguards on shore after screams were heard in the waters edge.  A female was recovered by the shore team.

Whilst on exercise crew were made aware of a speedboat in difficulty off the Mixon Buoy.  The crew attended the scene and found 5 persosn on board a speed boat with engine failure.  The crew set up a tow line and pulled the craft back to Knab Rock Slipway.

A Yacht had slipped its mooring in rough sea conditions and had drifted to the middle of Swansea Bay,

The ILB crew recovered the vessel and returned it safely to its mooring.

The ILB crew had spotted a boat in difficulty off Mumbles Yacht Club, however the casualties managed to paddle the boat back to shore with the assistance of an Easterly wind.

The boat was suffering with engine failure and had beached 1/2 mile away from the slipway.  The boat crew attempted to take the boat along the shore but were too cold and unable to make headway towards their trailor.

The ILB crew attended the scene and assisted to recover the boat and offer warm clothing to stop hypothermia affecting the 2 persons on board.  The ILB crew landed the power boat to the Slipway to the awaiting Coastguard Team who assisted recovering the boat.

The ILB crew assisted a small power boat in difficulty off Mumbles Pier.  The craft was unable to start the engine and had poor equipment on board, which meant they were unable to return to shore or secure themselves safely at sea.

The Boat and 2 Persons on board were towed to Knabb Rock.
